The Cape Nova Female Cougars’ organization is looking for talented girls who are ready to be challenged at the next level. The spring of 2006 saw the first female Cougars team in long time and, while it had a hard time getting started; it was undoubtedly a huge success in the end. The Cape Nova Cougars are looking to host teams at the Atom, PeeWee, Bantam, and 19 & Under levels. If you’re interested in becoming a member of the Cougar Organization, please reach one of the contacts below ASAP. We can also provide the names of those who participated last year if you wish to get their opinion of the program. |

Why chose the cougars? |
|
· The Cougar’s program offers something that our minor hockey system can not, and that is a chance for the girls in our area to play a High Level or “AAA” caliber hockey with other girls. There is no fear of hard body checks and this allows them to develop their puck carrying, passing and shooting skills faster than they would when they play mixed hockey. · The girls develop a bond, through team building skills, that can only be appreciated once you’ve seen it. Whether they know each other because they competed against each all season or just met each other for the first time, they constantly encourage each other. You just don’t get that in boys hockey! · Because the girls play in All Girls tournaments, they are seen by a variety of scouts from Prep Schools and Universities. These all girls tournaments are a great recruiting event for the scouts and they look forward to attending them. · Since this is an Elite Program, players will be treated as Elite Players. Girls will also be expected to act as Elite players, such as arriving on time, doing the off-ice training in the schedule, respecting coaching staff, referees and their parent’s as this is big commitment on the parent’s part as well. · The coaches will teach the girls a variety of plays, face-off’s, penalty kills and power plays during on ice and off ice practices. Many girls don’t get to play on the power play or penalty kills when playing with boys teams. · They’ll improve their Skills, their Thought Process about the game and commitment to a healthy diet, physical fitness, and their personal commitment to the team. · And of course, it’s a lot of fun! We’ve asked for copies of the pictures taken during the tournaments and we’ve noticed that there were very few of the games. Most pictures were of the girls and their families in the hotels, outside, malls, etc and only a few of them on the ice.
